Tuesday 5th January

Tuesday 5th January

Good morning again,

I hope that you and your families are all well.

I’d like to extend a thank-you to Diana and Oliwia who have already sent me some photographs of their work.

Below you will find all your work and lessons for today. However, I would like to mention one or two points in relation to this.

Today in Maths, you will be using all four operations (BODMAS) with fractions. If you need a reminder of how to perform any of the four operations, I have included a link to all the White Rose videos on this.

In RE you will be learning about the Epiphany which is celebrated tomorrow. I would be very grateful if you could email me your prayers that you will be composing in this lesson. It would be lovely to publish some of them on our class page.

Have a good day,

M. Price.

White Rose Maths for Tuesday 5th January - Four rules with fractions

Watch this video then do the worksheet below.

If you find that you need support with adding, subtracting, multiplying or dividing fractions you can find all the white Rose videos on how to do each of these by following the link below:
If you scroll down the page (see the photo below) and click on year 6 on the right-hand side you can access all the videos going back to the beginning of September. Fractions are covered in weeks 8 - 12, addition of fractions is the 5th video for week 9 and subtraction, multiplication and division of fractions are covered in weeks 10 - 12.

Reading for Tuesday 4th January.

Alternatively, you could listen to the audiobook on the following link (you would need to click on the fourth arrow and listen from 24:15 - I haven't yet checked at what point in the recording chapter nine ends but am sure you will spot when to stop listening).

After you have read each chapter , answer the questions on this comprehension exercise. The 'digging deeper' questions will need longer answers that make use of evidence from the text.

English writing for Tuesday 5th January.

In the book, Lyra is heading for the north where she will eventually see the 'Northern Lights' of the title. Later this week, you will be asked to write a non-chronological report (you wrote one on angels last term when we were reading 'Skellig') on the northern lights, or 'aurora borealis.'

In preparation for your report, use the internet to research the northern lights (aurora borealis) and make notes on all that you learn.

When searching online it would be a good idea to add 'ks2,' 'for children,' or 'for kids,' to your search to ensure you get age-appropriate material - otherwise you may find that you get  information that is incomprehensible!

Make sure that, when you make your notes, you only record key words and ideas (we have done this in class before, more than once, so you should know how to do this).
