A new school council was elected at the start of term. We have 25 members from Nursery to Year 6, including the Head Boy and Girl and 3 pro-active members of last year’s School Council, who will lead the School Council this year under the guidance of Mrs Westrop.
This year we made the voting for School Council members more difficult as previously, not all members were fully committed to the School Council. Pupil’s had to write some form of speech to explain why they wanted to be part of the School Council and what they thought they could bring to it, before the class voted for them.
The School Council have met 6 times this term and have allocated roles and responsibilities and decided what is to be their focus this year. The focus of the 2016-17 School Council is ‘Pupil Voice’.
The School Council had the opportunity to look at and trial the new ‘CleverTouch Interactive Screens’. They talked about the cost and presented back to their classes about the importance of looking after existing resources in order to save money for new resources.
The first School Council ‘Big Question’ to the rest of the school was ‘How can we improve History and Geography at Holy Cross?’ The School Council went back to their classes and asked this question. They discussed with their class and presented the ideas back to the next meeting. Three members of the School Council then feedback to the SLT their ideas. They then created a display board which identified ‘Pupils said….Teacher’s did’.
